Is it possible for me to purchase each module individually?

 

A. Yes
 

 

 

Q. 

Is there a specific order in which to take these modules?

 

A.  No, they can be studied in any order but usually in the order they are display in.
 

 

 

Q.  How long does each section take to complete?
  A.  25 – 40 hours
 
   
Q.  

I purchased a module some time ago, is there a time limit for me to sit the exam? 

 

A. No you can take as long as you like over each module and sit the exam when you are ready.
 

 

 

Q.

What is the pass mark?

 

A. 

The pass mark is 60%. Passes are banded into three categories:


60% - 74% -pass
75% - 84% - credit
85% - 100% - distinction

 

 

 

Q.

Where can I sit the examination?

A.  You can sit the exam at your workplace or at a local college/learning centre. Exams can also be sat at our offices in Portlethen. Please refer to examinations section for each course.
 

 

 

Q. 

What happens if I fail?

A. You will be allowed to resit the exam again. There will be no charge for this, however should you fail again and wish to resit then you will be charged £30.00 examination fee.
 

 

 

Q.  How do I appeal an examination result?
A.  Please contact Petroleum Open Learning and we will give you details on the appeals process.

Could you give me a bit more information as to the job prospects on completion of the courses you offer? 

 

A.  Our courses are well recognised qualifications within the oil and gas industry, but with any job it just depends on personal circumstances and experience.

What is the basic job description of production/process technician?

Process Technician

 

Role Purpose


Reporting to the Operations Team Leader (OTL) or Offshore Operations Supervisor, the Production Operator is part of a team responsible for the safe and efficient operation of platform plant and equipment to maximise and optimise production opportunities and achieve day-to-day production targets. 


The postholder will be responsible for investigating anomalies and carrying out routine and non-routine operational actions, to ensure the site’s/platform’s Process Modules and ancillary plant and utilities are operated in a safe and efficient manner.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Demonstrate excellent safety leadership and behaviours, ensuring that Health, Safety, Security & Environmental expectations are communicated, maintained and implemented.
  • React to the platform Fire & Gas and Emergency Shutdown systems under the instruction of the Control Room Operator to ensure safety of personnel, site and equipment.
  • Responsible for operating plant and equipment on site to optimise production of oil and/or gas.
    Operate utility systems to maintain life support system.
  • Play a significant role in safe isolation and reinstatement of plant and equipment.
  • Maintain the accuracy and use of the platform operations manuals.
  • Gas testing as part of Integrated Safe Systems of Work (ISSOW).
  • Actively participate in safety behavioural programmes.
  • Become involved with one or more of the following assessment processes: COSHH, Task Based Risk Assessment, and Manual Handling.
  • Fully conversant with the content and necessary actions within the Platform Operating procedures and Production and Standing Instructions.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping across the platform/site.
